Geotechnics

The nature and intrinsic variability of the ground represents a constant concern for clients in the development process.

Investigating and interpreting ground conditions removes uncertainty from the design and performance of structures or earthworks that the ground has to support. Removing this uncertainty means a much reduced chance of the cost and time over-runs that are otherwise likely to occur when the ground conditions encountered differ from the design assumptions.

Flexibility and open-mindedness are hallmarks of our response to all geotechnical challenges. These range from highly complex projects where the imaginative application of established methods is essential to achieving effective solutions, to creating new approaches to apparently simple designs.

A combination of high level engineering and geological expertise and experience, found only in specialists such as Gifford, is required to ensure that the design is both economical and appropriate to ground conditions.
