Airport Engineering
Development and maintenance of airport infrastructure covers a broad range of disciplines and requires a multidisciplinary approach to the development of solutions which needs to be tailored to accommodate many different local and operational environments. Gifford can provide these multidisciplinary services as an integrated in-house team or as part of a wider project delivery team.
At concept and feasibility stage, Gifford can provide transport planning services including surface access studies and strategy, multi-modal transportation hubs, passenger drop off and collection strategies and parking studies. These are complemented by geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, infrastructure and utility supply planning including assessment of future proofing options for longer term development. In addition, Gifford can provide project, programme and risk management services in a lead consultant role as well as managing stakeholders consultations and support to statutory processes.
For the design of airport buildings and infrastructure Gifford can provide experience and expertise in the following disciplines;
- Buildings - structural engineering, mechanical and electrical services, building sciences including internal environment simulation and energy minimisation, luggage handling systems, vertical transportation and façade engineering
- Infrastructure - roads and highways, pavement engineering, drainage systems and storage, lighting, bridges, tunnels and underpasses including staged construction sequencing to suit airfield operational requirements
These skills and services provide clients with a sustainable, integrated approach to project solutions on large and small scale airport infrastruture developments.
