Gifford has a dedicated team responsible for all activities on heavy and light railway projects. We are Link Up 2 approved for all discipline areas from bridge design, assessment and inspection through to structural engineering, mechanical and electrical building services; from permanent way design, gauging and route clearance, to geotechnical, environmental and historic engineering. Additionally we have expertise in the areas of risk and reliability, project management, safety and transportation services.

We also have strong links with specialist consultants and contractors to provide support with respect to signalling and power supply.

Gifford undertakes surveys, investigations, option studies, and the design and implementation of new build and refurbishment of bridges, stations, depots, earth structures, tunnels and shafts, retaining walls, water defences and drainage systems.

Working both directly for clients and with many contractors - both through frameworks and in design and build competitions - Gifford is well versed in the technical standards for Network Rail and LUL and their procedural, assurance and approval processes.

Gifford is a leading expert in the refurbishment of listed structures, state of the art analysis associated with structure/ground interaction, bridge strengthening and replacement, modular construction for bridges and buildings, the use of materials including composites and in achieving sustainable solutions.
