Façade engineering

The Tom Reilly Building, Liverpool John Moores University
Regulations governing the energy consumption and heat retention of new buildings are becoming ever more stringent. Despite this, engineering is often applied too late in the design process to have a demonstrable effect on the performance of a building and its sustainability as a whole.
Gifford’s Façade Engineering team can provide strategic advice from the outset of a project. By securing our involvement at an early stage our clients are able to achieve substantial savings, in the construction and building life costs. Appropriate engineering and understanding of interface issues produces economic and sustainable solutions, simultaneously mitigating unnecessary build costs.
We can also ensure that the building envelope design is optimised and maximum performance and energy targets, such as high BREEAM ratings, Part L compliance and optimum ‘U’ values, are achieved.
Providing proactive, high-level design leadership, our team offers a complete bespoke service from concept design to construction phase and beyond. We are able to integrate our specialist skills within an existing project team, or as part of a larger Gifford team providing a full spectrum of Environmental, Structural, Civil and Building Services Engineering design consultancy services.
Gifford Façade Engineering Team
Our dedicated Façade Engineering team is led by Gifford Associate Clive Everett who has extensive experience of the commercial and technical drivers which influence modern construction techniques for project envelopes.
Previously Technical Manager for SIAC Capital Projects Ltd, Clive headed the design team responsible for the £320m King’s Mill Hospital, Mansfield, Nottingham PFI project. Significant projects he is working on at Gifford include major redevelopments of West Cheshire College’s Handbridge and Ellesmere Port campuses, refurbishment of the 20-storey Grade II listed Arts Tower at the University of Sheffield and the full façade design of Hull Royal Infirmary.
